State of Java Ecosystem Report

State of Java Ecosystem Report

Observability leader New Relic released its State of Java Ecosystem Report based on data gathered from millions of applications providing performance data. The in-depth look at one of the most popular programming languages is especially timely given new version releases and the rise of containers.

Key takeaways include:

  • Amazon’s open-source JDK has increased to 31% of the market — taking over Oracle’s spot of the most popular JDK vendor.
  • Java 17 user adoption grew 430% in one year to 9%. The adoption rate of Java 17 far exceeds what the developer world saw when Java 11 was introduced.
  • Containers continue to run everything around us, and the data supports this. 70% of Java applications reporting to New Relic do so from a container.
